Greeting from Ms. Rebecca Suangoon

Head of DLTS Primary

Dear Families,

The past few weeks have been filled with activities and achievements for our students. They have now completed their final exams in Chinese and Thai, along with MAP testing for the semester. As we approach the end of the school year, students have reflected on their accomplishments and set new goals for the year ahead. Semester Two reports will be available at the end of next week.

Last week, our Grade 2 students took an exciting electric ferry trip, connecting this experience to their classroom learning and STEM projects. They explored material properties by designing and building their own boats, developing a deeper understanding of strong, durable, buoyant, and water-resistant materials.

This project, along with many others across all Grade levels, will be on display at the STEM Showcase next week:

– Tuesday, March 18 – Grades 3-6
– Wednesday, March 19 – Grades 1-2

We look forward to welcoming parents to this event, where students will share their learning. I encourage you to ask your children about their discoveries and how they have applied their knowledge across subjects.

I was also fortunate to join the Grade 4 & 5 residential trip in Samut Songkhram. Our students truly exemplified DLTS values, demonstrating teamwork, courage, and resilience as they embraced new experiences. It was a privilege to witness their personal growth and outstanding behavior throughout the trip.

As we wrap up the semester, we look forward to classroom celebrations and Student Council-led activities on the final day. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Student Council members for their dedication throughout the year. Their commitment to weekly meetings, amplifying student voices, and advocating for important issues has been invaluable.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and restful holiday. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Rebecca Suangoon

Grade 3 STEM: Crash Test Eggies!

This past term, Grade 3 students explored vehicle safety through the hands-on STEM challenge, “Crash Test Eggies!” The project focused on designing and building cars using recyclable materials to protect an egg driver during a crash test. The egg represented a real driver, with a crack on the shell symbolizing an injury. The goal was to design a car that would keep the egg intact during a collision.

Students learned about car safety features like seatbelts, airbags, car frames, and crumple zones and applied these ideas to their designs. Their cars had to meet specific criteria: the egg had to stay secure without anything attached to it, have a clear view of the road ahead, like a windshield, and carry two small packs of clay as luggage that remained in place during crashes.

The process began with students sketching ideas and selecting recyclable materials for their cars. They focused on building sturdy chassis, cushioning the egg’s seating area, and ensuring the luggage space was secure. Plastic eggs were used in early tests to test the car’s stability and impact absorption, giving students a chance to refine their designs.

The unit culminated with crash tests using real eggs! Students watched how their cars performed when rolled down ramps to hit barriers, checking if their designs kept the egg safe and met the project requirements. They talked about their results, discussing what was successful and what could be better.

Through this project, students gained a deeper understanding of engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving. They demonstrated creativity and resilience while tackling the real-world challenge of vehicle safety!

Classroom: Grade 4 at Bang Pu Nature Education Center

Grade 4 students embarked on an exciting field trip to Bang Pu Nature Education Center, where they had a hands-on learning experience surrounded by nature.

They explored the rich mangrove ecosystem, observed mudflat ecology, and spotted a variety of local and migratory birds. Guided by educators, students learned about the importance of mangroves in coastal protection and how these unique environments support diverse wildlife.

The experience helped them understand the delicate balance of nature and the role they can play in conservation.

Beyond the visitor center and auditorium, students explored the outdoor learning areas, which include natural trails, canopy walkways, and observation towers.

Walking through the lush mangrove forests and salt marshes, they had the chance to see native plants and animals up close.

The breathtaking views and immersive activities made learning fun and engaging. This unforgettable field trip not only deepened their knowledge of the environment but also inspired a greater appreciation for the natural world.
