Greeting from Dr.Matthew Fahey

Head of DLTS International School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am delighted to share some recent updates and highlights from our school community.

First, I want to express my gratitude to all the students, teachers, and parents who participated in our online safety training sessions. This initiative underscores our commitment to ensuring a safe and secure online environment for everyone. Online safety is a priority for us, and your engagement in this training reflects the shared responsibility we all have in keeping our community protected.

On another exciting note, I am pleased to announce that our new Building 3 will be used for our summer school programme. This facility will provide an excellent space for learning and will play a pivotal role in supporting our students during the summer. Summer school is an invaluable opportunity for students to maintain and enhance their English proficiency, and we are looking forward to welcoming as many students as possible to this enriching programme.

Looking ahead, I have recently reviewed the progress on Building 4, and I am thrilled to share that it is on track to be completed within the next six weeks. This new addition will significantly enhance our campus, providing further opportunities for growth and development.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school’s journey. Together, we are creating a vibrant and dynamic learning environment for our students.

Warm regards,

Greeting from Ms. Rebecca Suangoon

Head of DLTS Primary

Dear Parents,

The past couple of weeks have been filled with exciting activities across the Primary School. Last week, I had the privilege of attending our Grade 3 Residential to Pine Resort in Pathum Thani. While it was only a two-day stay, it certainly did not disappoint. The students embraced the challenges of staying away from home and seized opportunities to grow friendships and build independence.

Looking ahead, I am excited about the upcoming Grade 4 & 5 Residential next month. I strongly encourage all families to invest in this valuable part of your child’s education. These experiences truly help students grow in confidence and develop life skills in a meaningful way.

This week, the school has been buzzing with activity as we prepared for and celebrated Chinese New Year. Our vibrant Chinese New Year assembly, marking the start of the Year of the Snake, was an engaging event! The assembly highlighted the rich Chinese culture and language that are such an important part of our school community. Our talented students impressed their peers with captivating performances, including lively dances, and songs. Their hard work, creativity, and growing confidence in Mandarin were on full display, truly bringing the spirit of Chinese New Year to life!

Looking ahead to the end of February, students across the Primary School will be participating in MAP testing. This is a valuable opportunity for students to showcase the progress they’ve made throughout the academic year. More information will be shared with you soon, including tips to help your children prepare for these assessments.

Here’s to a prosperous and inspiring Year of the Snake for all!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Rebecca Suangoon

Grade 5 STEM: Creating Character Soundboards with Makey Makey

Last term, the Grade 5 students worked on a STEM project that combined storytelling, coding, and design to create posters of their favorite characters. Using Makey Makeys and Scratch, the posters became interactive soundboards that played quotes from the characters.

We began the projects with students choosing a character and writing about why they admired them. This helped students think about character traits, motivations, and memorable moments.

They then discovered how to use Scratch to program audio clips and how Makey Makey turns physical objects into a kind of keyboard which can be connected to a computer. For the soundboard, they selected five quotes that best embodied their characters.

Students then designed posters that reflected their characters’ personalities, leaving space for soundboard buttons. Finally, they wired the posters with Makey Makey, connecting each button to a specific sound clip.

This project allowed students to be creative, solve problems, and share their ideas. Great job, Grade 5!

Denla Golfers Shine at Flora Ville

We are thrilled to share the recent success of our Denla golf team! Last week (Jan 20th), our young golfers participated in the International School Golf Tour event at Flora Ville Golf and Country Club and demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship, skill, and teamwork.

The team played well in very challenging conditions with several players shooting scores in the 80’s. Insee, Sherynn and Fairy represented the Sharks with top 10 finishes.

Their dedication to practice and positive playing attitudes shone throughout the competition. We are so proud of their efforts and exemplifying our school values.

A big thank you to the families and supporters who came out to cheer them on! Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for our next ISGT event hosted by Bromsgrove International school at Phoenix Gold Country Club.

Bringing Learning to Life: Science Experiments and STEM Creations

DLTS students are actively engaged in hands-on learning through exciting experiments in the science lab. Working in groups, they are exploring various scientific concepts, testing ideas, and observing reactions together. These experiments allow them to think critically, solve problems, and apply what they have learned in class. By experimenting, they gain confidence in their abilities and develop a deeper understanding of how science works in real life. The excitement and curiosity they bring to their projects make learning even more meaningful.

Meanwhile, in the STEM room, students are using technology and creativity to bring their ideas to life. They are working on different projects, such as designing calling cards and building balloon-powered cars using a 3D printer. These activities help them understand how technology can be used to create useful and innovative designs. By exploring 3D printing, they develop problem-solving skills, patience, and attention to detail. It’s inspiring to see their enthusiasm as they turn digital designs into real objects and discover new possibilities through hands-on learning!
