Walking you through the admissions process at DLTS International School

At DLTS International School, a motto that we hold near and dear to our hearts is “Choose Excellence.” As days pass by, we reiterate that motto time and time to position ourselves among the top choices for international schools in Bangkok. We are committed to providing quality education to our students and preparing them on the path to being excellent future leaders of tomorrow.

We adopt a multifaceted approach to education, balancing between a play and project-based approach to education and placing our students within an environment that promotes self-confidence and growth.

Why is DLTS your top choice?

For our younger learners, our approach to education centres around a play-based approach to balance between fun and education. We believe that a friendly and lighthearted environment is crucial in helping young minds fall in love with learning. Co-teachers are also present to offer a helping hand to students no matter what the task is because at DLTS International School, everyone is part of our family and no student gets left behind.

Our primary students however adopt a more project-based approach with an American-based curriculum that not only places a major emphasis on STEM subjects but also provides world-class education in other areas such as languages, arts, physical education, and extracurricular activities.

As we strive to develop 21st-century skills, DLTS should be your top choice as we fully equip our students to be modern-day thinkers, ready to adapt and take on any challenges in the future.

Our commitment to you

At DLTS, we operate closely with the principle of equal opportunity in education. We believe that education transcends all boundaries and we, and any member of the DLTS family, do not tolerate discrimination of any kind against individuals. This remains true within our admissions processes. We admit students purely depending on whether we can prove to be the perfect match for their educational needs.

With this as our primary criterion in admissions, we also operate with complete honesty and transparency. If we feel that we will not be able to match the demands of your children, we are more than happy to make arrangements to provide you with a helping hand.

If students our students require additional learning support, we also request support from parents for us to assess their specific needs, and whether we have the capacity to meet them.

The admissions process

Initial application and screening

The first step that parents will be involved in is submitting an application form and any required documents. Each applicant is reviewed individually at DLTS given that our main objective here is to assess if students are able to access and acclimatise to our programs and curriculum effectively.

This may take some time, as we are diligently assessing and evaluating the specific needs of our students, whether there are any specific educational needs that we may cater to, and if we have the facilities to cater to the student specifically.

In paying extra attention to the initial screening, we hope to provide a second home for your children, a place where DLTS can help them grow, develop, and blossom.

Placement and year level determination

To make sure that your child is placed within the appropriate year level, we consider a few factors including their age, academic level, and any specific needs that they may have. With this, we also consider whether the student applicants have any siblings or alumni connections that are already part of the DLTS family.

For early years students in years 1, 2 and 3, we base our considerations based on the child’s age with August 31 being the cut-off date for the application period. For primary students grades 1 to 6, we also generally place children depending on their ages, however there might be a few extra considerations if need be.

Admissions testing and screening

To assess the readiness of your child, we may conduct additional tests and screenings with the sole purpose of determining whether they are fit for their academic levels.

For younger children, we may ask your child’s current teacher to complete a developmental screening checklist. This enables us to develop an understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

We may also schedule a parent interview to add to our understanding of the needs of your child. We aim to find out their interests and learning styles. But most importantly, this will help us determine if your goals and expectations as a parent line up with our core mission.

For primary students, a NWEA MAP Growth assessment will be used to assess their academic abilities. Please do note that the screening process is strictly employed so that we can gauge your child’s readiness for our school’s program, and whether any adjustments need to be made on our end.

Language requirements

As a trilingual school, English is the primary language of instruction at DLTS. Thai and Chinese are the two other building blocks of multilingualism, which we are committed to developing among all our students.

One of the most important decisions that we make as parents is choosing the right education for our children, and DLTS remains committed to providing high-quality, and internationally recognised education for all of our students.

But in order to do so, assessments during admissions are crucial as they give us an idea of the learning capabilities of our students, giving us room to adjust and cater our teaching to the specific needs of your children.
